Sigh of relief.
I know that Darwin and Scopes are both dead and incapable of breathing for any purpose. And I also know that the Evolution skeptics in Kansas were no longer pushing for "Creationism." Rather, the standards expressed doubt about the theory* of evolution and implicitly supported "Intelligent Design"--the hypothesis that life is too complicated to be the product solely of chance and must have included an unspecified designer. However, Creationism by any other name is still Creationism. (This is the law of the land, btw, according to Katzmiller v. Dover Area School District et al..)
Kansas Republicans lost control of the Kansas School Board nine months after changing the standards. The fight is unlikely to be over but science standards have won out in the short term.
*This is an infuriating misuse of the word "theory." By science standards, "theory" does not mean an unproven idea. It means something that is substantiated by evidence and is accepted as true unless disproven (my lay definition). If evolution were merely a hypothesis, critical evaluation would be more appropriate.
