Talk about bizarre news stories. In 1996, six-year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey was found strangled in her family's Colorado home. Years of investigation -- and an obscene amount of media coverage -- led to no significant development in the case. Ten years later, a tip leads to the investigation -- and eventual arrest -- of John Mark Karr (note the three names used to identify any notorious criminal). Karr was apparently obsessed with the case, in love with the late JonBenet Ramsey, and convinced that he was present when she died. The investigation and extradition of Karr from Thailand to Colorado revived the media frenzy surrounding the case, with experts warning not to assume Karr was guilty. Lots of attention-seekers confess to notorious crimes. And, it appears, we do a fantastic job of providing the attention they seek. This week, DNA evidence ruled out Karr as JonBenet's assailant. He may still face child pornography charges in California.
